At The Finishing School we have always believed in teaching with the best available materials.  In 1993, a few of our students told us about a wonderful group of water-based faux finishing materials that had been developed for professional decorative painters by Raymond Sander of Faux Effects®, Intl. Once we saw finishes done with these materials we realized that we had found what we had been looking for. This water-based media allowed us to produce high end finishes that previously could only be done with solvent-based materials. Once familiar with the Faux Effects® materials we were able to explore new ways of developing exceptional two and three dimensional faux finishes.  We feel privileged to have been the first independent school to have integrated Faux Effects® materials into its curriculum.

Faux Effects® is an interactive system where all the materials can be interlaid in virtually unlimited combinations creating extraordinary finishes that are limited only by the imagination of the decorative painter. These materials consist of translucent glazes, reactive solvents, in addition to marble, wood and glazed finishes.  These materials can be applied by brush or roller, layered and hand rubbed for a flawless finish, or sprayed where appropriate for increased production.

Any traditional technique (such as those shown in our book Professional Painted Finishes) can be accomplished with the Faux Effects® materials.  The finishes created by students in class transend that which can be achieved through other media.
